leaf.gif (145231 bytes)Welcome to my poetry Web!

The garden cross spider - Aranea diademata - builds a beautiful wheel-shaped web, which she slings between grass stalks in late summer. On misty mornings it picks up thousands of tiny water droplets, which sparkle like strings of tiny diamonds. There's poetry in that.

I hope my web will offer some little diamonds as you explore.

Since first publishing a few poems on the Internet in 1997 I have had several email comments from people who have read them and liked them. I've also had requests for help from young people who are struggling with their English homework, or who have started to write poetry themselves. I don't pretend to be an expert, just an amateur practicioner of the craft of writing poetry.

I started writing poetry in my teens. That was long time ago - the 1950s. Years can go by without any inspiration. It comes in fits and starts. What makes a poem struggle into the light from one's unconscious mind? They have a life of their own. You can write verse to order, but not poetry.

To give each poem some background, I have included a short explanatory note.
